{"id":236,"date":"2018-05-03T23:14:57","date_gmt":"2018-05-04T04:14:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/servertricks.com\/?p=236"},"modified":"2018-05-03T23:14:57","modified_gmt":"2018-05-04T04:14:57","slug":"limit-upload-and-download-speed-on-pfsense","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/servertricks.com\/index.php\/2018\/05\/03\/limit-upload-and-download-speed-on-pfsense\/","title":{"rendered":"Limit Upload and Download Speed on pfSense"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Login to pfSense webUI<\/p>\n<p>Go to the &#8220;Firewall&#8221; tab at the top and select &#8220;Traffic Shaper&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Now select the &#8220;Limiters&#8221; tab<\/p>\n<p>Click &#8220;New Limiter&#8221; on the left hand side<\/p>\n<p>You will likely be making two limiters, one for upload and one for download. <\/p>\n<p>For download, enable the limiter by checking the &#8220;enable&#8221; box at the top, then set your bandwidth limitation and finally set &#8220;Mask&#8221; to &#8220;Destination Addresses&#8221; now click &#8220;Save&#8221; <\/p>\n<p>For upload, enable the limiter by checking the &#8220;enable&#8221; box at the top, then set your bandwidth limitation and finally set &#8220;Mask&#8221; to &#8220;Source Addresses&#8221; now click &#8220;Save&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Now the limiter needs to be added to a firewall rule. If you are trying to limit an entire subnet, go to the &#8220;Firewall&#8221; tab at the top and select &#8220;Rules.&#8221; Next select the interface that you would like to apply the limiters to, &#8220;LAN&#8221; for example. Edit the &#8220;IPV4 \/ IPV6 * * * *&#8221; rule, by default this is rule is put in place to allow all traffic from the LAN to pass to any interface.
